organic hides that Leder Mode uses in its manufacturing process
are sourced from its sister company Tanners Limited, and are
of the highest standard. The hides and skins pass through an
elaborate process before becoming suitable for Leder Mode’s
Lifestyle pieces:
1. Flaying: the careful removal of the animals’ skin
prior to meat processing.
2. Soaking: soaking back dry material to restore (cured) hides
to a natural or original state.
3. Fleshing: to remove unwanted fat and flesh.
4. Tanning: preservation of skin using vegetable Tan or Chrome
Tan (mainly) to become Leather.
5. Sammying: removing of moisture from Leather.
6. Splitting: to achieve uniform thickness.
7. Dyeing: to get the required colour.
8. Set-Out: to remove creases and surplus moisture.
9. Drying: to get required moisture content and flatten Leather
10. Staking: to flex and soften Leather.
11. Buffing: to improve the surface of the Leather.
12. Finishing or Seasoning: to improve appearance and protection.
