The story of 26-year-old Leder Mode Limited is the story of vision
and passion. In 1970, Tanners Limited, Leder Mode’s sister
company, supplied over 40 major shoe manufacturers on the island
and in North America with high quality leather. However, with the
advent of the free market system, 10 years later it became clear
that local shoe manufacturers could no longer compete with inexpensive
imported shoes. Mr. Barclay Ewart decided to start his own shoe
manufacturing company. This new company would utilize the local
hides and skins, which his Tannery was processing on a daily basis
and would focus on leather fashion, from which its name is derived
– Leder Mode is German for Leather Fashion!
To this day, the hides and skins used in
all Leder Mode products are carefully selected from organically
grown Jamaican cattle to begin the creation of remarkable lifestyle
pieces. From safety boots and gloves to sandals and handbags,
fashion belts to novelty items, Leder Mode Limited makes “everything
leather”. Leder Mode’s team of highly skilled designers,
managing and production staff then work closely together to create
incredibly stylish and world-class products. Pay close attention
to the tasteful line of LM branded full grain leather sandals,
handbags and belts conceived by London trained textile designer
Mrs. Deirdre Ewart!
Over the years, Leder Mode has forged a strong partnership with
international consultants who provide world-class technical support
to our Production process.
